Cobra Warrior provided experience in large-force multinational air operations

The Royal Air Force’s Cobra Warrior exercise ended on Friday 4 October 2024. Some of the Finnish fighter jets will remain at RAF Waddington to take part in the air operations of the Royal Navy's Strike Warrior exercise, starting on 14 October 2024.

Baana 24 road base exercise in Rovaniemi and Ranua

Lapland Air Wing will organise the Finnish Air Force’s Baana 24 road base exercise at the Norvatie highway strip in Rovaniemi and the Hosio highway strip in Ranua from 31 August to 6 September 2024.

In the spring, the Air Force organized a kick-off event for fighter pilots and aircraft maintenance personnel embarking on an initial training course on the F-35 in the United States.

A marked change is on the horizon for the Air Force in the latter half of the decade with the gradual introduction into service of the F-35 fighter aircraft alongside the F/A-18 Hornet and the Hornet’s decommission by the end of 2030. The transition from 4th to 5th generation fighters will also be reflected in the flight training of the Air Force.
