The air wing supports air force combat capability by executing various supporting air missions, undertaking research and development, and maintaining continued availability of air bases across southern Finland for air operations.

The Finnish Air Force will conduct the Ruska 21 air operations exercise on 4‒9 October 2021. The exercise will involve 3,300 personnel, including 1,500 reservists.
