Application Period for Voluntary Military Service for Women Closes Soon

Have you considered completing the voluntary military service? Submit your application via MyMilitary e-service by January 15, 2025, and join the growing ranks of military-trained women in the country!

In recent years, an increasing number of women have completed their voluntary military service in the Finnish Defence Forces’ or Border Guard’s units. The service offers unforgettable experiences, new friendships, and skills that can be useful in both studies and working life. Completing the service also opens up opportunities for a military career, international crisis management missions, or diverse roles in the reserve.

Applying in a Nutshell

You can apply for voluntary military service if you are a Finnish citizen, aged 18–29, and in good health suitable for military training. The service can be completed in all units and roles within the Defence Forces or the Border Guard. Instructions for applying are provided below.

Apply Easily via MyMilitary e-Service

You can apply for voluntary military service through the Defence Forces' electronic service, MyMilitary. On the application form, you will answer questions about the service and your health. Remember to include your preferences for service time and location in the application! You can read about different service roles and locations in advance here: Service titles - Intti.fi

Medical examination 

You must attach a medical certificate to your application. Book an appointment at your health centre or school health service and inform them that you need a fitness for military service examination.

Bring a printed copy of your completed application and the Medical Examination Form to the examination. The doctor will fill out the form. Keep receipts for any expenses incurred. You can claim for reimbursement for the medical certificate costs from the Defence Forces. The claim can be made in the same electronic application.

Remember to submit your application by January 15, 2025!

After receiving the medical certificate, log back into the MyMilitary service and attach the certificate to your application. Finalize the application and send it as soon as possible, but no later than January 15! If you have questions about applying or change your mind, contact your regional office.

Selection Events in April

Based on your application, you will be invited to a selection event where your fitness for service will be reviewed, and all applicants will be interviewed. The decision on  where and when you will complete your service will be made at the selection event. The selection events are organized by the regional offices.
