Closing date is approaching for application to voluntary military service for women
Do you intend to do military service? Submit your application online via the MyMilitary e-service by 15.1.2026 and join the growing number of military-trained women!
This year marks 30 years since the first women started their military service in Finland. At present, up to more than 14,000 women in total have completed the voluntary military service for women at the brigade level units of the Finnish Defence Forces and of the Finnish Border Guard. Offering versatile reservist tasks as well as eligibility to apply for military career and crisis management tasks, the military service develops competences that are utilisable while studying and in working life as well.
You may submit your application to the voluntary military service for women if you are a Finnish national, 18-29-years of age, and your state of health is suitable for military training. Military service can be undertaken at all brigade-level units and in all service tasks of the Finnish Defence Forces and of the Finnish Border Guard. At the Border Jaeger Company of the Lapland Border Guard District in Ivalo, the first women will start their service in the contingent II/26 in July 2026. Submit your application easily online via MyMilitary e-service
You may easily submit your application to the voluntary military service for women online via the e-services of the Finnish Defence Forces (available at omaintti.fi). The application form asks you to fill out answers to questions relating to conscript service and your state of health. Also, please remember to fill in any wishes that you have concerning your service time and service location! Please note that at MyMilitary e-service, maintenance will cause a break during 7.1.2026 at 16 - 12.1.2026 at 9, which means that during the outage no services are available for applicants. So, please submit your application well on time!
Undergo a medical examination
To your application you need to attach a medical report on your state of health. Therefore, book an appointment to a medical doctor at your own municipal health center or place of study, and say that you need to undergo medical examination for military service eligibility.
Bring along to the medical examination a printout of the questionnaire for examination of health form that you have already filled out as well as the form for the medical report on state of health to be filled out by the medical doctor. If you have to pay a fee for the medical examination, please keep the receipt to apply for reimbursement of expenses from the Finnish Defence Forces on your application via the e-service. Please note that the reimbursement for expenses at a private medical practitioner will be covered only up to the equivalent expenses at a Wellbeing County.
Remember to submit your application by 15.1.2026!
Having received the medical report on state of health, please log into MyMilitary e-service again, and then attach the medical report to your application. Please finalise your application and submit it as swiftly as possible, by 15 January 2026 at the latest! Selection events to be held in April
Based on your application, you will be invited to attend the selection event held in your region, which will involve check of your eligibility for service and an interview. At the selection event the decision will be made on where and when you are to complete your service. The regional selection events are organised by the Regional Offices.
Special application – service tasks that you apply for before service start
Special application will be in accordance with the application timetable set at a given unit. Note that you may submit your application and be considered as an applicant even before the selection event for the voluntary military service for women is held in April.
