Lapland Air Wing’s Fighter Squadron 11 will take part in the Swedish Air Force’s traditional Christmas tree flight on Wednesday 11 December 2024.

Julgransflygningar – Christmas tree flights – are an annual tradition for the Swedish Air Force. This year, other Nordic nations will participate in the flights for the first time. Lapland Air Wing will take part in the flight in Northern Sweden and Northern Finland as part of the Cross Border Training activity.

Weather and other conditions permitting, the Christmas tree formation consisting of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen and Finnish F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets will fly along the following route on Wednesday 11 December 2024:

  • Rovaniemi 12:00 hrs (Finnish time, GMT+2hrs)
  • Pello 12:08 hrs
  • Haparanda 12:20 hrs
  • Seskarö 12:23 hrs
  • Kalix 12:26 hrs
  • Töre 12:28 hrs
  • Råneå 12:30 hrs
  • Boden 12:34 hrs
  • Luleå 12:37 hrs
  • Oulu 12:50 hrs

The formation will fly from Pello to Haparanda along the Tornio river on the Swedish side of the border. 

The route and the timings may change or be cancelled at a very short notice before or during the flight due to weather or other issues.
