Protective Fence 25 to strengthen the Finnish Air Force’s defence capability and readiness

The Finnish Air Force will conduct the Protective Fence 25 exercise from 22 to 26 September 2025. The exercise will involve a total of around 50 aircraft and 1,200 personnel.

The Royal Norwegian Air Force Commander, Major General Øivind Gunnerud and the Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force, Major General Jan Dam visited the Air Force Academy on Wednesday 13. August, and participated in Hawk air operations. The visit was hosted by the Finnish Air Force Commander, Major General Timo Herranen.

Nordic cooperation on military flight training deepens

Finland and Norway began educational cooperation in autumn 2023 when the first Norwegian student pilots arrived at the Air Force Academy for training.

Three Norwegian student pilots graduated from the Air Force Academy in May 2025. The photo is from August 2024, when the Norwegians completed the Hawk 1 training phase, earning the Finnish Air Force pilot’s wings in addition to their Norwegian insignia.

Norwegian student pilots at the Air Force Academy now ready for F‑35 training

Since autumn 2023, three Norwegian student pilots have been studying at the Air Force Academy, concluding their Hawk training phase in May. Next, they will proceed to F‑35 training in the United States.

Introducing the Commander of the Finnish Air Force
