The Finnish Air Force will take part in Ramstein Alloy 2/20 with two F/A-18 Hornet multi-role fighters from 29 June to 1 July 2020.

The objective of the Ramstein Alloy exercise series is to enhance the interoperability of NATO member and partner nations’ Air Forces in the Baltic Sea region. The training scenarios include missions such as the identification and escort of an aircraft suffering from communications loss (COMLOSS). The Finnish Air Force participates in the exercise series, coordinated by the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre Uedem, as a partner nation.

Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Finnish F/A-18s will operate only out of Rissala Air Base, Finland, during Ramstein Alloy 2/20. The training missions will take place in the international airspace above the Baltic Sea and in Finnish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian airspace.

The Finnish Air Force’s participation in the Ramstein Alloy exercise series is a part of the Defence Forces’ international training and exercise plan for 2020, approved by the Finnish Ministry of Defence. The exercise takes place three times a year. The previous time the Finnish Air Force participated in Ramstein Alloy was in April 2020.
